Tripunithura railway station to undergo major makeover

Sunday, April 21, 2013

Keeping in view the major developments planned for the railway station at Tripunithura, it will be known as Ernakulam East Railway station, MP P Rajeeve has said.
The station, which is a potential central point of rail transport in the sector, is expected to cater to the needs of the suburban passengers, he added.
P Rajeeve, along with Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal was visiting the railway station following the dharna organised by the Tripunithura Rajanagiri Union of Residents’ Associations  (TRURA) on Saturday. The MP added that the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) branch at Tripunithura will contribute heavily for providing the basic amenities at the station. A sum of Rs 7.34 lakh has already been sponsored by BPCL for the same.
Electronic display boards, chairs, water coolers and shelters will be set up with the fund. The amenities will be provided to passengers within the next three months.
Addressing the lack of toilets at the station, P Rajeeve said that e-toilets will be set up at the station using his MP funds.
The long-neglected approach road to the entrance of the railway station will be tarred by May 15, he added. Major thrust will be given to building roofs for the platforms at the station.
